The Hebbal–Sarjapur metro (Red Line): route, status and what it means for buyers
Almost every new launch on Sarjapur Road mentions the metro. Here is where the Red Line will run, where it actually stands today, and how much of a home's price should depend on it.

The short answer: the Red Line (Namma Metro Phase 3A) is a planned line of about 37 km from Hebbal to Sarjapur, through the city centre and Koramangala. The Karnataka government approved it in December 2024, but as of October 2026 it is still waiting for the central government's approval, and construction hasn't started. The latest reported target for opening is 2033. If you're buying on Sarjapur Road, buy a home that works without it, and treat the metro as a bonus.
We get asked about this line every week by buyers looking at Sarjapur Road. It will matter a great deal when it opens. The question is when, and how much of that future you should pay for today.
The route
The line runs north to south-east through some of the city's busiest areas. According to the revised project report, the stations include:
- North: Hebbal, Ganganagar, Mekhri Circle, Palace Guttahalli
- Centre: Basaveshwara Circle, KR Circle, Town Hall, Shanthinagar, NIMHANS, Dairy Circle
- South-east: Koramangala, Jakkasandra, Agara, Ibbaluru, Bellandur Gate, Kaikondrahalli, Doddakannelli, Carmelaram, Dommasandra, Sompura, Sarjapura
Station names and positions have already changed once in the revised report, and may change again before construction. Treat any list, including this one, as provisional.
Interchanges
| Station | Connects to |
|---|---|
| Hebbal | Blue Line (Outer Ring Road and airport), and the planned Orange Line |
| KR Circle | Purple Line |
| Dairy Circle | Pink Line |
| Agara and Ibbaluru | Blue Line on the Outer Ring Road |
| Carmelaram | Railway station |
Those interchanges are what make the line valuable: from Sarjapur Road you would reach the Outer Ring Road tech parks, the city centre and, via Hebbal, the airport line.
Where it stands (October 2026)
- December 2024: the Karnataka Cabinet approved the project.
- Central approval: the Union government is a 50% partner in Namma Metro, so the line needs its approval. The first project report was sent back over cost. A revised report, at a lower estimated cost of about ₹26,000 crore, was resubmitted and is awaiting approval.
- Timeline: the latest reported target for opening is April 2033, two years later than the earlier estimate. Some published sources show later dates.
For context: lines in this city have usually opened later than first announced, and construction only starts after approval, funding and tendering. Check the latest status on BMRCL's website before you rely on any date.
What it means if you're buying
- Price the home on today's commute. For most of the 2020s, Sarjapur Road residents will rely on the roads, and on the Blue Line along the Outer Ring Road for those near its Bellandur end.
- Check the real distance. "Near the upcoming metro" usually means "near a proposed station". Measure the walk to the planned station yourself, and remember station positions can move.
- Be wary of metro premiums in a launch price. If a project is priced well above its neighbours because of the metro, you're paying in 2026 for something that may arrive in the 2030s.
- Think about the construction years. When work does start, the roads along the route will be disrupted for several years.
- Long-term owners benefit most. If you plan to live in a home for ten years or more, a well-placed station will likely make a real difference by the end.

Questions readers ask
Is the Hebbal–Sarjapur metro line approved?
The Karnataka government approved it in December 2024. As of October 2026, it is still awaiting central government approval, and construction has not started.
When will the Sarjapur metro open?
The latest reported target is April 2033, two years later than the earlier estimate. Dates have moved before, so check BMRCL's latest update and don't rely on it for a purchase decision.
Which areas will the Red Line serve?
It is planned to run from Hebbal through Mekhri Circle, the city centre, Dairy Circle and Koramangala to Agara, Ibbaluru, Bellandur Gate, Carmelaram, Dommasandra and Sarjapur. Station positions may still change.
Should I pay more for a home near the planned metro?
Be careful. A home near a planned station may gain when the line opens, but that could be years away. Price the home on today's commute and treat the metro as a long-term bonus.
